BCSS First Connections/Early Intervention Program provides services to children from birth up to three years of age that have been identified or who are at risk of being identified as having developmental disabilities. Our program not only focuses on the child, but also involves the child's family and/or caregivers. We believe that effective early intervention must include a child's family and/or caregivers since they are the child's "first teachers".
Currently early childhood and developmental disabilities research has established that early identification of developmental delays and the early initiation of intervention service are critical since learning and skill development occurs most rapidly during the early years. Research has shown that early identification and early initiation of intervention services can result in such positive outcomes as the reduction of special education and/or therapeutic services needed by disabled children in their later years, a reduction in the occurrence of grade retention, and increased community access by children with developmental disabilities. The BCSS First Connection/Early Intervention Program supports current research by providing developmentally appropriate learning and therapeutic opportunities to young children that have been identified with developmental delays.
The BCSS First Connections/Early Intervention Program provides such critical early identification and intervention services as:
• Developmental Screening
• Developmental and Therapy Evaluations
• Speech-Language Therapy Services
• Occupational Therapy Services
• Physical Therapy Services
• Parent/Caregiver Instruction and Consultation
• Service Coordination
• Community Awareness Information Services
